CATAG FAQ – Urban Team Game & Outdoor Activity

Before You Book

What is CATAG?

CATAG is a real-world outdoor team game played in cities across the UK.

It combines elements of:

  • A team building activity

  • A photo-based tag game

  • A city exploration experience

Players move through real streets and public spaces, tracking objectives on their phone, photographing opposing teams, and avoiding being seen.

It’s designed for groups, corporate teams, and social events.

How long does a CATAG session last?

A CATAG session typically lasts 90–120 minutes, including:

  • Briefing and setup

  • Tutorial round

  • Two live games (20-30 minutes each)

  • Debrief and results

This makes it ideal for group activities, team building events, and social bookings.

How many people can play?

  • Minimum: 10 players per booking

  • Typical: 10–30 players

  • Maximum: ~40 players (Larger player bases can be accommodated -check out the Corporate page)

Players are divided into teams on the day, making CATAG suitable for large group activities and corporate events.

Is CATAG suitable for everyone?

Yes.

CATAG is a light outdoor activity suitable for most people. It involves walking and movement, so participants should be comfortable navigating a city environment.

No prior experience or special skills are required.

Do we need to know each other?

No.

CATAG works for:

  • Friends and social groups

  • Corporate teams

  • Mixed groups

Teams are organised on the day, making it a great icebreaker activity.

Is CATAG good for team building?

Yes — CATAG is designed as a team building experience.

It encourages:

  • Communication

  • Strategy

  • Coordination

  • Decision-making under pressure

It’s widely used as a corporate team building activity in UK cities.

On The Day

What do I need to bring?

Each team needs:

  • At least one smartphone with internet access

We recommend:

  • A fully charged phone (bringing a battery bank is always a good idea)

  • Mobile data enabled

  • Comfortable clothing suitable for outdoor activity

Do I need internet and GPS?

Yes.

CATAG is a GPS-based outdoor game, so it requires:

  • Mobile data (to send photos and updates)

  • GPS (to track positions in real time)

Good signal improves gameplay, but short interruptions will not stop the session.

Is CATAG physically demanding?

No.

CATAG is a light physical outdoor activity, not a fitness event.

Expect:

  • Walking (sometimes brisk)

  • Quick decision-making

  • Awareness of surroundings

It’s suitable for most fitness levels.

Is it safe to play in a city environment?

Yes.

CATAG is designed as a safe outdoor group activity:

  • Games take place in pedestrian-friendly areas (No large roads involved)

  • A full safety briefing is provided

  • A trained Game Master supervises the session

Participants must follow standard road safety and remain aware of their surroundings at all times.

Do we interact with members of the public?

No.

CATAG is a closed group activity:

  • You only interact with other players

  • You must not approach or photograph members of the public

How does scoring work?

Points are earned by:

  • Photographing opposing teams

  • Capturing in-game objectives

The scoring system is managed by the Game Master within the app and adjusted depending on group size.

Do we need any equipment?

No.

CATAG provides everything required for gameplay, including:

  • Team setup and equipment

  • App and Instructions

  • Game management

Can we drink alcohol during the game?

No.

For safety reasons:

  • Participants must not be under the influence of alcohol or drugs

  • Anyone who appears impaired may be refused participation

What does the Game Master do?

Your Game Master:

  • Runs and manages the event

  • Hands out props

  • Explains the rules

  • Maintains the leaderboard

  • Oversees safety

  • Ensures fair gameplay

They have final authority during the session.

Booking & Policies

What happens if it rains?

CATAG is an outdoor activity, so:

  • Light rain → session goes ahead

  • Severe weather → session may be postponed

A final decision is made approximately 3 hours before the start time:

  • No message = event proceeds

  • If postponed = you will be contacted with rebooking options

Can I cancel or reschedule my booking?

  • More than 72 hours before → free rebooking

  • Within 72 hours → no refund or credit

All bookings are non-refundable.

What happens if some players don’t attend?

Bookings are based on total group size:

  • No refunds for no-shows

  • Player substitutions are allowed before the event

Is there an age limit?

  • Minimum age: 16 years old

  • Participants aged 16–17 must be accompanied by an adult

Where does CATAG take place?

CATAG is played in selected city locations across the UK, chosen for:

  • Safety

  • Accessibility

  • Gameplay quality

Your exact meeting point will be provided after booking.

Are photos used publicly?

No.

Photos taken during gameplay are used only within the app for scoring.

Neither 'CATAG UK Ltd.' nor the app developers 'CATAG Games GMBH' store or use these images publicly without consent.
